Zippity do dah....RAR
RAR RAR
This
mini tutorial on
How I Do things is about: How I unzip and/or
open multiple ZIP files and/or
RAR files
(RAR
files which are
similar to ZIP files but many foreign
countries use the RAR compression
format versus the ZIP compression format that
many downloads that you might
obtain from online come in)
OK
for my this particular
How I Do It - I am choosing to use RAR files
as my example -but everything
I mention or show will apply to ZIP file
downloads as well. I just wanted
to illustrate that the utility I use works on
both ZIP files and RAR
files which may not be as common or
familiar to some downloaders.
I
use the FREE utility
- UnZiplify
- to unzip or open multiple files at the same
time.
Download the utility
and install to your own computer.
Then
install it on your
computer. I have both VISTA and Windows 7
computers, and it works fine
on my systems.
There are other
utilities
that do the same thing -
but for this How I Do It page I am using Unziplify
Currently as of March
2009
there are some Free Digital Scrapbooking kits
available from this
website
Scrapbook
Kingdom
http://www.3dielle.com/skfreebies.html
Note:
I used a Free alphabet
from one of the downloads - the
3dielle's Choko Pink Collection
to
make part of the heading
on this webpage
The following screen shots
will show how I download, save,
and unziplify the multiple files I
download
from this website
Click
on the Download
Link for each file
*note
the website
owner suggests that you can use WINRAR to
open these files:
but
in my examples I
will be showing using the free utility UnZiplify
Next
Choose a location
on your computer that you will remember and
associate with such files
When
I am downloading
lots of files in a day - I like to have them
all download to a single folder
on
my
computer - My "Downloads"
file folder
Where
ever you download
the file to > write down the location on a
piece of paper in front of you
so
that you'll remember
where you put it. If you're like me - you may
surf the freebies aisles
of the
internet
on a daily basis
and download and/or purchase lots of kits or
digital graphics in a day.
So I
like to download
stuff to one location
Next
locate the folder
that you downloaded all your files to...open
it to see each of the
files
- then
CLOSE IT - you're just checking to
see that all your downloads are
where
they
should be
Now
to open or unzip or
un-rar each of the files in my Downloads
folder -
I RIGHT
MOUSE Click directly on the Downloads folder
- that brings up
a
menu and I choose Unziplify
That
action will then
Unzip or un-rar - and Open each of those files
and
extract them to a
new subfolder named "Unziplified"
if a
file didn't completely
download or there are problems with it,
Unziplify will give
a
message that it was
unable to open or unzip that particular file.
You can try visiting the
site
where the file came
from and email the owner designer letting them
know of an
issue
with a particular
file or try downloading it again.
Once
the Unziplifying
is completed the dialog box will close and you
can now open your
folder
again and find
the Unziplified folder - inside that will be
each of your files in their
own
particular
folder.
Note:
sometimes - there
are some designers who design their zipped or
rar files to
open
to the individual
graphics themselves and they will not be in
their very own titled subfolder
and
you will just see
the individual graphics in the Unziplified
folder. You would then
need
to possibly create
a new subfolder and move those individual
graphics
into
their own folders.
From
this point - You
can move any all of the subfolders to another
location on your computer
for
better organization
or filing.
What
I do sometimes is
if for example I downloaded a bunch of Spring
or Easter themed type files
I
would move them all
to a separate Pictures folder that I would
make named SpringEaster09 and
just move
those
files to that folder.
And
sometimes I might
also just rename the unziplified folder itself
- say for example >
4digikits030809
or
something similar - using the date I
downloaded a bunch of stuff as
the name > then move that entire folder to
my Pictures folder.
I
download so much stuff,
that unfortunately I don't have a really good
method for organization of
knowing exactly what I have etc. but - putting
things in folders by dates
or themes seems to work best for me.
Other
utilities that can UNZIP Multiple files at the same
time
Extract Now
ExtractNow is a
simple utility that allows you to extract multiple
archives quickly and easily.
ExtractNow is not a complete archival solution.
It's main purpose is to allow the user to extract multiple

There
are many places
online to download Digital Freebies,Fonts,
etc. - but also please be aware that the
generous artists and designers need our support
and we should try to shop
at their online sites as well when we are able
to purchase from their stores.
Many of the artists and designers are supporting
or helping support their
families
by
creating items for
purchase. Their generous offers of freebies
should be supplemented by our
purchasing items from their stores when we are
able to. And please also
when comments are requested by the designers
please
take the time
to comment and say thankyou for the freebies.
Please also
follow all TERMS OF USE. The majority of
FREEBIES available for downloading are for
Personal Use Only. They can not be used
to create items to sell, the files can't be
shared with others.
